Archibald William Donald

 

The son of Harry R. and Isabella (MacHardy) Archibald of 490 Queen St., Chatham, ON. Don was born in the USA.  The brother of Elizabeth (Newell) and Margaret (Sysel) His mother moved to Merlin when he was six years old.    A graduate of the Merlin High School. The husband of Marion (Chrysler) and father to Ruth Anne and Susan. 

Donald enlisted in the RCAF “early in the war” and served as an Flying Officer / instructor at RCAF-EFTS at Windsor, ON. for more than a year when it closed.The MS 17/02/44 FO. Archibald was on a two-week furlough at his home from Windsor.

He transferred to the United States Army Air Force and was in Nashville, Tennessee before shipping out overseas.  Don joined the American – Ferry Command. He was reported CDN23/02/45 being home on a furlough with his mother.

Don saw service as a pilot instructor in the China-Burma-India theatre of war where he was awarded the United States “Air Medal & Cluster. CDN 27/11/45(P)

The CDN 10/02/1948 reported that William married Marion June (nee Chrysler.

Don retired from Navistar International – Chatham in 1980.

Donald passed away 4 April, 1999.
