Rank Flying Officer, Corporal

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Everitt Atkinson MS. 16/03/44 of Port Alma, Kent Co., ON.  Arthur attended high school in Merlin, and later, in Blenheim.  A brother Gordon served in Italy with the Army.  Before enlisting in the RCAF Art had obtained his private and commercial pilots licenses. Gordon served in Italy with the Army.  

Art enlisted in January of 1941. He trained at Brantford and Trenton and became an instructor; training others in the BCATP at Prince Albert Sask.   He was there for two years.  In June of 1943, he completed his training at Dunnville, at Brantford and Trenton, “graduated, and was commissioned as a pilot Officer.”   By November of 1943, he was promoted to Flying Officer. He had logged over 3,000 flying hours. CDN 14/03/44.   The CDN 14/03/44 reported that Art had arrived safely overseas.  MS 16/03/44

Reported returning from overseas CDN 5/06/45 

The CDN 5/06/45 reported that Cpl. A. E. Atkinson had returned from overseas for other duties in Canada.  At this point, he was a member of the Merlin branch RCL.
