The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bourdeau of 434 Forhan St., Wallaceburg. The brother of Clovis, who served with the Canadian Army in Italy. He had four brothers at home: Arthur, Armand, Henry and Gerald, and also nine sisters: Mrs. E.J.Cloutier, Mrs. Art Trudell, Mrs. Romain Lucier, Jeanette, Jean, Reita, Marion, Teresa and Claudie. “Frenchy ‘ was born in New Brunswick. His family moved to Windsor in 1927 when he was six years old. They lived there 16 years before moving to Wallaceburg in 1939. Evariste received his education in Windsor at Holy Rosary and the Windsor Vocational School.

At the outbreak of War, he joined the Essex Scottish. He trained at Camp Borden and served for two years in Newfoundland. He went overseas in December of 1943, and transferred to the Lincoln & Welland Regt. From there, he went to the Maisonneuve (Quebec) Regt. which went to France.

The WN 23/03/44 reported that Joseph was on active service.

His parents received an official communication that their son had been WIA on 12 August, 1944. A friend reported to the Wallaceburg News that he was recovering nicely.
