The son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Boyle of 45 ½ Raleigh St., Chatham, ON. Francis enlisted in April of 1942 his family then were living at 132 Lorne Ave., Chatham. with the US Army Air Force. CDN 21/08/45.

A American citizen by birth, age 29 years old. 

Francis was born in the United States but spent ten years prior to his enlistment living in Chatham and attended C.C.I. After his high school graduation, he worked at the Libby McNeil and Libby plant in Chatham as a mechanic.  He had one brother and two sisters. His brother-in-law was Sgt. James Hudson with the Canadians overseas.  

Francis enlisted in Detroit, Michigan in April of 1942 with the US Army Air Force and was training at the USAAF base at Keesler Field, Mississippi and graduated after five months of training. Tech. Sgt. Boyle spent a year and a half with the Troop Carrier Command in Europe. The CDN 18/06/43 reported that he had arrived in North Africa according word received by his parents. Young fliers that have ‘V’ mail from North Africa, came through the States and arrives in Chatham in eight days.

Tech. Sgt. Boyle spent a year and a half with the Troop Carrier Command in Europe. He came home by plane from overseas, landing in Connecticut. CDN 21/08/45(P)  He had been in England since March of 1943. Prior to that, he saw active service in Africa and the Sicilian campaign.  

The CDN Aug. 1944 reported that Segt. Francis W. Boyle had been awarded the USA – Air Medal for services in the American Air Force. “About 5,000 American Flyers, of whom Segt. Boyle was one were awarded this decoration recently”.
