Regimental number: 2433341. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 985 – 11, Item 59258, (military file available at LAC.-B0985-S011). No.1 Forestry Draft.  Date of Birth 01/08/1886 at Dresden, ON. Son of Mr. James Munroe and  Mary Boyle of Dresden. The brother of  Charles Munroe, Thomas Dewey, Harry Ray, Samford Earl and William James. A single Blacksmith living in Dresden. Attestation: 15/05/1917 at Windsor, ON. to No.1 Forestry.

Russell went overseas 9/08/17 and served in England. After complaining of pain in his chest, he was admitted to No.11 Canadian General Hospital, Shorncliffe on 25/05/18. He was diagnosed with Pleurisy.

The chief symptom associated with pleurisy is a sharp, stabbing pain upon breathe. This pain might go away when holds their breath or puts pressure on the painful area. However, the pain often got worse when one sneezed, coughed, or moved. Fever, chills, and loss of appetite are also possible symptoms, depending on the condition that’s causing the pleurisy.

He embarked on the S.S. Empress of Britain and arrived at Halifax 22/01/19. He was discharged from the service 17/02/1919 at London, ON. 17/02/1919.
