Thomas was the son of a local veterinarian. He enlisted in 1917 at the age of 18 and served overseas with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He re-enlisted in World War Two in the Royal Canadian Engineers. After discharge, he was a postal worker in Toronto, and later retired to Little Britain, Ontario.

Discharged December 7th, 1943.
