Born 1/11/1920. The husband of Laura (nee Nicholls). The father of Vickie and Michelle, Rick and Kim.

Enlisted 15/08/1940 with the Kent Regt. He went overseas with the Highland Light Infantry and went to France on D-Day. He was the only man from Chatham in his company.  He noted that “The civilians were very good to us all through France, Belgium and Holland.”   

He was reported to be wounded on 14 October by machine gun fire during the battle of the Scheldt Pocket in Holland. He was first hit through the left arm and the bullet passed completely through his arm and across his chest, cutting his pay book nearly in half. Not satisfied, the Nazi soldier shot again as he was heading back to an aid post. The second wound was in his right ankle. He spent nine days in hospital in Belgium before being flown to England. He was returned to Canada on 27 December, 1944.

Overseas three years in total.

Pte. Bradley was discharged from active service 19/05/1945.

Francis passed away 7 February, 1979 and is buried at Maple Leaf Cemetery – Chatham.
