Regimental number: 844137 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 1031 – 42, Item: 62050, PDF: B1031-SO42. Date of Birth 28/06/1893 @ Kent County, ON. Age: 21. Son of Alfred and Louise Breaton of R. R. #2 Dresden, ON. The brother of Charles 844130.

A sailor. He would later marry 10/11/18.

Attestation: 21/03/1916 @ Florence, ON. to 149th Bn. Height: 5’ 8”, Complexion: Light Brown, Hair: Brown, Eyes: Hazel, he had tattoos on both forearm. Medical completed 17/03/16 

Clarence came down with tonsillitis 20/11/16, the mumps 29/11/16 and the Mumps 22/02/17 to 10/03/17.

He embarked in Halifax 20/03/17 aboard the S.S. Lapland and debarked at Liverpool, England 7/04/17. From there he was taken on strength (TOS) at Bramshott after segregation to the 2nd Batt. Pioneer Batt. (replaced the 149th Batt. for o/s.).   

Clarence had been gassed but more seriously he had received a GSW to to his right knee at the Battle of Passchendale 25/10/17. He was admitted to No. 3 General Hospital at LeTreport 28/10/17 He was admitted to the Dominion Orthopedic Hospital.He was discharged 3/12/18 but his leg was very swollen. Clarence arrived at the Manor War Hospital at Epson.

Clarence arrived at Halifax aboard the S.S. Goorkha. 11/06/18. 16/07/18 he developed a Paralysis in his right legs nerve. The wound had not quite healed  

19/06/1918 Clarence was admitted to GMCH at Guelph, ON. He was struck off service at GMCH on a transfer to the College Military Hospital No. 2.He would receive his Service Chevrons and one Gold stripe for his wound. 11/07/1918

10/11/18 He received permission to marry, Matilda Breaton. He underwent treatment at the Dominion Military Orthopedic Hospital  7/01/1920. It was determined that he was medically unfit for discharge.He was discharged from Toronto, ON. 13/01/1920. After his discharge re was presumed to reside at 105 Waterloo St., Guelph.
