He had a brother Orval on Raleigh St., he also had a sister Mrs. Mac Campbell residing on Gray St.  A pupil of Queen Mary School, Central School and CCI. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Ontario Steel Products Co. in Chatham.

William enlisted 22/10/1942 with the RCAF, training in Toronto and Quebec. After training he went overseas.  In August of 1944 he was reported MIA. 17/08/44. In his last letter home he stated that he had transferred to the RAF. In fact he had parachuted from his disabled plane and had landed in Sweden where he was later reported “Interned” by the neutral Swedish government. He would later be repatriated to England.
