Captain, CAMC. Referance: RG 150, Accession: 1992 – 93/166, Box 2624-40, Item: 36227, PDF: B2624-S040. Date of Birth: 17/08/1892 at Chatham, Kent Co., ON. The son of George B. and Dorothy Annie (Foxey) Douglas, 11 Dalton Rd., Toronto, ON., he had two older sisters Annie and Marguerite and two younger sisters Annie and Beatrice, John was living with his mother at that address. He attended school in St. Thomas, ON. He had completed two years with the COTC before enlisting. 

Attestation: 9/01/1917, age 24 years; at Exhibition Camp, Toronto. A Physician.   

He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1916, as a Physician (after attending university for seven years).  

Attestation: 9/01/1917 at Exhibition Camp, Toronto, ON. age 24 5’101/2” Stationed at A.M.C. Training Depot No. 2, Rank – Lieut., commissioned 9/01/17. He embarked at Halifax 26/03/17 and disembarked at Liverpool 7/04/17. John was appointed Temporary Captain “London Gazette (30483) Dated :18/01/1 

Served as a medical officer in the Great War. Serving in England at Bramshot Camp, Hants, England. He served in France  as Assistant Director of Medical Services TOS at Westahanger 7/04/17. He was transferred to 2nd Canadian Command Depot – Bramshot, England. He returned to France 6/06/18. Capt. Douglas was granted a 14 day leave 11/01/19 

Capt. Douglas returned to Canada aboard the HMT Mauretania 28/06/19. When he arrived in Canada he was sent to Ottawa TOS 9/07/19 at Military Head Quarters (MHQ) and SOS 12/07/1919 for General demobilization. He was for a time resident at 29 Burling Cresent, Toronto, ON.

After the war he worked in the Department Pensions & National Health of Canada in Victoria, BC. Director , Labour Dept of Health Ontario, in North Bay, ON.

He accompanied Arctic expeditions as a physician. He served as the Quarantine officer in Halifax.

Dr. John Sutherland Douglas  passed away 26 October, 1939 at the age of 47.
