Born in Chatham, ON. the younger son of Albert and Ethel May Eadinger of Forest St., Chatham, ON., brother of WO 1 William H. in service with the RCOC stationed in Montreal. He attended Blessed Sacrament  school in Chatham and CCI and CVS.   

The husband of H. Margaret (nee Gillings) Eadinger, of Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada., he had two children John and Peggy. Prior to enlisting in the RCAF Jack had been employed at the Union Gas Co. for twelve years but in 1941 he was with a London, ON. insurance company Manufactures Life Insurance. He was also a Chatham Daily News carrier boy.

Jack enlisted in 1941 with the RCAF. He trained at Brandon MB., Calgary AB and at RCAF-Fingal ON.

AC Eadinger was home in December, 1942 spending a furlough with his wife and baby daughter in Ridgetown and visiting his parents in Chatham. CDN 28/12/42 

The CDN 16/10/43 reported Sgt. Eadinger and his wife and their children spent a day with his parents on Forest St. before his departure for the east coast.

Sgt. Eadinger received his wings in September of 1943 at Fingal as a wireless air gunner, he went overseas in October of 1943. The CDN Sep. 1944 reported that he was listed as “missing after air operations”. He was reported as MIA 3/02/45. It was also reported that he had been commissioned a Pilot officer since 29 July 1944.

In late June of 1945 P/O. Eadinger’s parents received the following letter sent by the Aid Commadre which read as follows from CDN 23/06/45:

“It is with deep regret that I must inform you that advice received from R.C.A.F. Casualty officers overseas states that your son PO John Martin Eadinger is now for official purposes presumed to have died on active service July 29, 1944.

I realize that this letter will be a blow to the hopes you have entertained for so long and in your added sorrow I offer you my deepest sympathy and may the same spirit which prompted your son to offer his life give you renewed courage.

Date of Death: 29/07/1944, In Halifax bomber LK 833 on Air Ops. target Hamburg, Germany. Aircraft was shot down at Quamstedt, three other 431 Sqd. planes where lost that night.
