 Cpl., (Pte. First Battalion Kent Regt.) transferred  A505233, Essex Scottish Regt. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Jown W. Elgie, 518 Nelson St. Wallaceburg, ON. The brother of Clarence Elpie (Essex Scottish) serving in France, Ralph (A540464) and Gladys.

The WN 13/08/42 repoted on the wedding of Pte. Elgie and Miss Norma Woods of New Westminister, BC. married on 16 June, 1942. The couple had a short honeymoon to White Rock, BC and afterwards setup house in New Westminister wher Ernest eas stationed.

William enlisted in Sarnia in 1942. He trained in London and in British Columbisand went overseas in 1943. He transferred to the Essex Scottish and was with them in Normandy after D-Day.

His brother wrote home to inform their parents that William had been “slightly wounded”. WN (date unknown)

The CDN 10/12/45 reported that he returned to Canada aboard the S. S. Mauretania. Next of Kin: Mrs. J. Elgie, 518 Nelson St., Wallaceburg, ON. Arrived aboard the S.S. Mauritania from oversea docked at Halifax NS. 1 January, 1946.
