The CDN 22/03/45 reported that the Ellis brothers who enlisted together returned to Canada together. Even while in England Sicily and Italy they were never more than a few miles apart. Charles was on an extended leave that five year men qualified for. “None of us are fussy about going back, but we wouldn’t mind if the draftees went along with us.”

Sergt. Ellis revealed that the 30-day rotation leave was officially broken service and when a veteran with six years service goes back he is starting all over again as far as “first in, first out”.

Charles had the pleasure to meet his six year old daughter when he arrived by bus in Chatham. The last time he saw Monica Charlotte she was four months old when he left for overseas. It must have been a wonderful moment when he got off the bus and she called out “There’s daddy!” Charles wife and daughter were living at 50 Lowe St., Chatham.
