Rank: Sub-Lieut. RNVR. Service No. 5866-J-195. Born 7/01/1897 the son of William and Jennie Ferguson of 5th concession, Harwich Twsp., Kent Co., ON. The brother of Dougal, Margaret, Arch, Edith, Jess, Bob, Duncan and Alex. He attended public school at S. S. #9 Harwich Twsp and the Chatham Collegiate Institute for High School. 

John was attending the University of Toronto when his studies as a medical student, living at 320 Huron Street, were interrupted by the Great War.

Prior to his enlistment in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve he was attested  as Pte. 3036673, Central Ont. Regt., 1st Central ON. MSA: 828765. RG150, Accession: 1992-93/166, Box: 3050-17, Item: 387556, PDF: B3050-SO17. His address at 320 Huron St., Toronto. A single student. N of K: Mrs. Jennie Ferguson (mother). R.R. #4 Chatham, ON 

Medical at Toronto, ON. 28/09/1918. Age: 21 yrs. 4 mos. Height: 5’ 6 1/2”, Weight: 119 #, Girth: 34 ½” , Complexion: Dark, Eyes: Grey, Hair: Brown. Scar over left ear.

“Errereously Order to report.”  SOS at Toronto.  

Enlisting 7/05/1918 at Toronto, ON, with the RNVR. Served 14 months with the Royal Navy. During his time of service he served on hospital convoys between London, England and Halifax, NS. Reported returned from O/S duty. CDP 11/04/19.

After the war John returned to the University of Toronto he graduated MB in 1921 and joined the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons 30/06/1921. He practiced in Strasburg, Saskatchewan for three years before returning to Kent County to join in practice with Dr. James W. Rutherford and remained there as a partner until until Dr. Rutherford death in 1939. In 1960 his office was located at 47 King St. West in Chatham, ON.

Dr. Furguson married Audrey “Grace” (nee Parson) in 1933 and they had three children, Elizabeth who died in childhood, John Duncan and Shelia Jean. Dr. Ferguson was involved in many clubs and professional association was well he enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising horses.

Dr. John Stanley Ferguson died 23/01/1988 his wife died in August of 1996.
