Resident Tilbury

Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Fletcher of Tilbury. Brother of Archie. The Merlin Standard 28/08/41 reported that John had been a teacher at the Valetta Public School when he gave that up to join the RCAF resigning his teaching position. He had been accepted into the RCAF an he expects to be assigned to a training centre,.  

In November of 1941 John was training at the Fengal Bombing School and after a weeks furlough was leaving for Eglinton Training School in Toronto. In July of 1942 John was at No.7 Bombing & Gunnery School at Paulson, MN. where he was given a proficiency award in “bomb aiming”. He was then transferred to No.1 Central Navigation School at Rivers MN. to continue his training. Robert would receive his Wings at No.1 Central Navigation School – Rivers MN in September 1942.

John was at home in Tilbury on a two weeks leave after graduating with his “Wings” at Rivers, Manitoba. CDN 21/09/42. His next posting would be at RCAF Victoriaville, PQ. TT 24/09/42. In March of 1943 John is at home on leave from the training station at Yarmouth, NS.TT11/03/43.

Sgt.-Observer Fletcher was reported returning to duty on the East Coast after being home on a two week leave. TT 5/08/43. The CDN 29/10/43 reported he had left early in the week for Yarmouth, NS. after a ten day leave spent at his parents.        

The CDN 2/11/44 reported P/O. Fletcher was in Tilbury on a twenty-one day leave with his wife in Chatham and his parents in Tilbury.  John left Tilbury for Yarmouth, NS. to resume his duties. CDN 16/11/44.
