Regimental number: 124570, Reference: RG150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 3617A – 74, Item: 41752A, PDF:- B3617A – S074.  Date of Birth 20/08/1892 at Ilmere, Bucks, Buckinghamshire, England.  The son of George and Hannah Julia Gomme of Cold Harbor, Towersey, Thame, Oxon, England. As a single farmer living in Blenheim, ON. Attestation: 18/12/1815 age 23 years, 4 mths. Transferred  33rd  Bn. 14/12/15.

Apparent Age: 23 yrs. 4 mths. Height: 5’ 7 ½ “, Girth: 30”, Complexion: Dark, Eyes: Blue, Hair: Brown, Weight: 156 #. Medical Exam, “Fit”. 18/12/1915 at London, ON. Drafted to the 21st Bn. to 2nd Can. Entrenching Bn. then transferred to 21st Bn.

TOS 18/12/15 – 70th Bn. to December to 8 April, 1916 to 18/04/16 HIS UNIT SAILED 24/04/16. 

Aubrey came down with La Grippe 2/02/16.

Transferred from 33rd to the 70th Battalion transferred to the 70th overseas Bn. Age 23 yrs. 4 mths. He proceeded to England in 26 April/16 and was taken in to the 39th Reserve Battalion. 10/09/16 Drafted to the 21st Bn. then to the 2nd Canadian Entrenching Bn. and re-joined to the 21st Bn. joined that unit. LAC.

Aubrey assigned Pay of $15.00 to John Walker, of Chamor, Wallingford, Oxford, England. ‘’In the event of my death I give the whole of my property and effects to my uncle J. J. Walker, Chinnor.    

Pte. Gomme joined the 21st Battalion at Albert, France in October of 1916. He took part in the Calonne trench Raid in January of 1917. This was the largest trench raid up to then on the German lines. The Battalion captured many prisoners as well as some trophies. One of the trophies was a Maxim Machine gun which is now in the Kingston Museum.

GOMME AUBREY S. 124570, 21ST Bn. was KIA 9/04/1917 age 24 at Vimy Ridge. Burial at Ecoivers, Military Cemetery. Pas de Calais, France. CVWM. The son of George and Hannah Julia Gomme of Cold Harbour, Towersey, Thame, Oxon. (EOR) 21st Bn. VI. C. 20.        

It was reported in the Toronto Evening Telegram newspaper that the estate of Aubrey S. Gomme consisting of $500 in War Bonds and $201 in his bank account was to go to J. J. Walker of Chinnor, Oxford, England, his uncle.

The Memorial Cross to Mrs. H.J. Gomme. Medals to John J. Walker – Channor, Wallingford, Oxford, England. The Memorial Plaque & Scroll to Mr. George Gomme – PO. Towersey, Thame, Oxford, England.

From the Toronto Evening Telegram 12/06/18. Pte. Aubrey S. Gomme.  J. Walker, Chinnor, Oxford, England, will inherit the $500.00 in War Bonds and $ 201.00 in the bank which made up the estate of his nephew Pte. Aubrey Sidney Gomme, No. 124570 who was Killed In Action, 9 April, 1917, while serving with an Eastern Ontario infantry unit.”
