Enlisted at Gosport England, December 22, 1943. Landed at New York for Flying Training with the U.S. Naval Air Service on January 2nd, 1944 reported to U.S. naval Flying station Grosse Isle Michigan. He was transferred to Pensacola Naval Flying School during August 1944 where he was granted a commission as Sub. Lieutenant.   William celebrated his 23rd birthday on 31 October, 1944. After seven months in England he returned to the United Sates to complete his carrier training. CDN 24/11/44(P)

Then transferred to Jacksonville, Florida, then to Lewiston and Brunswick, Main, then to Norfolk for carrier Deck Landings. Returned to Great Britain and stationed at Edlington Base Donegal Northern Ireland.

Discharged March 30th, 1946.
