Trained at H.M.C.S. Hunter, in Windsor and at H.M.C.S. Cornwallis. Was assigned to the aircraft carrier Puncher. Went to Scotland and was stationed on the new Canadian Aircraft Carrier warrior, prior to this ship’s starting on a world victory cruise.

Cook, RCNVR. The CDN 21/11/45 reported that John along with Charles Osbourne had enlisted together at HMCS Hunter in Windsor, ON. had been separated for eleven months before meeting again at HMCS Cornwallis, NS. along with another “jeep” [rockie] James Hinder from Swan River, Manitoba. Reunited they were all sent to the aircraft carrier HMCS Puncher. They were transported to Scotland to await the completion of HMCS Warrior slated for completion 24 January, 1946 and sail for Canadian April.

There was some talk about all three staying in the Navy after the war but not decided on.
