 Regimental number: 189724 / 880272. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 3954 – 62, Item: 436144, PDF:B3954-S062.  Attestation papers not available on the LAC on original search. A search made 30/11/2018 – complete review obtained JRH..  He is reported living in Wallaceburg . Born 4/03/2896 at South Moore, Durham County, Devonshire, England. The son of Mrs. Helen Hall (later Elnow Joiner) of Wallaceburg, ON. (later listed as Box 491 Wallaceburg). A father is not named later reported as ‘deceased’. A single glass worker (later reported to have been a clerk on the railroad) prior to his discharge.

The son of Dr. and Mrs, Fred W. Hall of Wellington Street West, Chatham.

It was reported in the CDN 2/09/42 that Lieutenant William Wilson Hall married Phyllis (nee Tarr) of Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, NS. at Christ Church, Chatham. William was reported returning to New Westminister, BC. after a leave in Chatham. CDN 7/09/42.  Lieut. Hall and his wife were reported returning to Chatham from the west coast to spend some time with his parents. 

He was reported serving with the 24th Kent Regt., Service No. 880272, Pte. He transferred from the 24th to the 91st Batt. at St. Thomas, ON. 29/12/1915 at the age of 19 years 9 months (5’41/2”, Fair – complexion, Grey – eyes, Light – hair) Medical completed at Chatham, ON. Transferred from the 91st Batt. to the 186th overseas Batt. 28/02/16. The 186th Batt. departed Halifax 28/03/17 aboard the S.S, Lapland, and debarked at Liverpool, England 7/04/17.

Pte. Hall, after some training in England was transferred to France 6/09/17 to the 18th Batt. William was seriously WIA during the battle at Arras, France 11/04/18, when hit in the jaw by a piece of shrapnel which fractured his left upper jaw. CDP 16/04/18 . Wounded in nose, cheek and roof of mouth, from and lost a number of his teeth. “No Return Ticket”. – A. William was transferred to the Canadian General Hospital – Estaples 3/04/18 from Field Medical Post. From Estaples he would be transferred to a hospital in England in this case London General Hospital 9/04/18 and then to 16th Canadian General Hospital at Orpington.    

Leading up to a “Medical Board” to determine his fitness to serve. He was examined at the Ontario Military Hospital – Orpington, Kent, England. The fractured jaw and the fit of dentures was still causing him numbness in the left upper jaw and lips and a inability to chew army food. . It was the determination of the Medical Board that he was medically unfit for service.  

Pte. William Wilson Hall would he returned to Canada aboard the Empress of Britain arriving at Halifax 22/01/1919. He was then posted to a Casualty Company. He was granted a furlough with allowance.  Upon his return he was discharged “medically Unfit for HM Service. 

Served four years with Divisional Signals.

Enlisted with the Kent Regiment when it mobilized in 1940, and served with that unit for three and a half years, in Canada.

Discharged March 19th, 1944.

William passed away 22 Sept., 1990.
