Son of James Roy and Ida Belle Hamil, of Windsor, ON. , and the brother of Pte. Ervin L. Hamil, A109972

Prior to moving to Windsor the Hamil family lived in Harwich Twsp. and Blenheim, ON. The grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hamil of the 10th Concession, Harwich Twsp.

Walter was stationed with #431 Irquois Sqd., was reported as MIA when Halifax bomber DK 265 failed to return in the BNT 27/09/43.  Also in the aircraft crew were Sgt.s H.E.Evans, T.A.Ashcroft (RAF) G. Beeken (RAF), R. Mather (RAF), F.W.Stubbings (RAF) and F/O S.H. Walker).

Walter was reported as MIA in the BNT 27/09/43.

Age: 22; KIA – Date of Death: 09/10/1943, in Halifax bomber on Air Ops.: Hannover, Germany. Walter has no known grave.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead, Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 186.

Memorial: RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL. Name found on grave stone at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim, ON.
