George enlisted in June of 1939 the Essex Scottish. Trained at Camp Borden until May 24th, 1941. Went to trade school in Toronto and took an electrical course for six months. Transferred to the Elgin Regiment in Debert Nova Scotia until August 1942. Was posted for overseas duty (likely as a replacement for the Essex Scottish lost at Dieppe), and when three days out the troopship collided with another ship and was unable to continue the trip. Put into New York Harbour and the troops shipped back to Debert. Transferred to  R.C.A.M.C. and sent back to Camp Borden for medical training

Discharged November 28th, 1945.
