RCAF. The Wallaceburg News  reported that P/O Henry was overseas, stationed in England  at No. 4 S.F.I.S RAF.  WN-date unknown. The son of Ensign William A. Henry, US Coast Guard living in Sombra. Married to Marion (nee Ferguson) of Wallaceburg.

The Wallaceburg News reported that AC. Richard Henry was stationed at RCAF Dunnville in an article 15/05/41. AC. Henry would be at at RCAF-Verdun, MB. He was reported in the WN 14/08/41 on a short leave at home.

The WN 15/10/42 reported that P/O. Henry was an instructor in Northhampton, England. The article went on to say that one of his students Pierre Tummers of the ‘Fighting French Air Force stopped to visit with Mrs. Henry,. He was a student of P/O Henry in England and he had just finished a five months training in Moosejaw, SK.  

Flt.-Lieut Henry was on a straffing mission in a single seat fighter when the engine of his plane was struck by flak from German guns. Information from another pilot who followed Richard and saw the plane start to drop. He saw Richard bail out at 3,000 feet and his parachute opened at 1,000 feet. He also saw Richard land safely on the ground, pick up his chute and start to run to the edge of the open field he dropped in.

Flt-Lieut Henry had time to radio that his engine was struck and he would have to “take to a parachute”, but he was unhurt.

His wife Marion received information that he was MIA on 22 May, 1944. News of his capture came from the International Red Cross in Germany and was sent from RCAF HQ in Canada WN 29/06/44
