The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Florent,  Next of kin listed as Mrs. J. Vaerenberghe (sister) of Wallaceburg, also had two brothers in Wallaceburg Louis and Charles.

The WN 6/01/44 (P), reported that Sapper Hofmans, who was born in Belgium and then overseas with the RCE, 4th Field Survey. Herman took part in the Dieppe Raid, wounded but escaped. He was out of hospital, “though partially crippled.”   

Returning on the S.S. Empress of Scotland expected to arrive at Quebec City 10 Sept., 1945. CDN 1/09/45, CDN 8/09/45. The WN 11/05/45(P) reported that he arrived home safely on 11 September. He enlisted 22 September 1939 and saw active service in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.

Sapper Hofmans was returning on the S.S. Empress of Scotland and was expected to arrive at Quebec City, 10 Sept., 1945.
