Born in Tilbury. Married, his wife and children were living at 9 or 11 Grand Ave. E. in Chatham.

Albert enlisted with the First Kents when they mobilized in August 1939. He stayed with the Kent’s until March of 1943 when he volunteered for overseas duty. He had trained with the kents while in Chatham, London, Halifax, Niagara-on-the Lake, New Westminister BC and Terrace BC. before transferring.

Transferred to another unit in 1942 and went overseas. Served in Italy, Sicily, and England. Was wounded twice. Promoted to the rank of Corporal.

She was notified that her husband had been wounded December while in action in Italy CDN 12/01/45. Pte. Holland had been serving in the army for four years, joining the 1st Kents in 1939 he transferred to the RCR for overseas action in 1943.He had first been wounded on 8 December, 1943 in Italy. A telegram was received by Mrs. Holland dated 20 December 1943 from the Director of Records as follows:

“Regret to inform you Private Albert Roy Holland officially reported wounded in action December 8, 1943. Nature and extent of wounds not yet available. Further information follows when received.”

Over a month later Albert’s wife knew no more than she did from the above telegram. She believed his wound could not be too serious.

He had been sick with malaria in November and was reported wounded by telegram on the 10/12/45. CDN12/01/45. His wounds were not serious and he was soon back in action.

Discharged January 18th, 1946.
