Pte. Son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Howe of 86 Gray St., Chatham, ON. Prior to his enlistment Lester was employed at the Fleet Aircraft, Fort Erie and Central Airways in London, ON. He also worked for Frank Sparks and the Bondy Chatham Auto Supply Co.

Pte. Howe received his basic training in Chatham during April 1943, his advanced training at Ipperwash and a special mechanical course in London and Woodstock, ON. CDN 18/03/16(P)  Lester went overseas in February of 1944. 

Trained in Canada from April 1943 to February 1944. Went overseas and served in Scotland, France and Germany. Was wounded slightly by shrapnel but not hospitalized.

 

The CDN 12/10/44 reported that a cable had been received by his parents saying that Lester had been wounded in France on September 21st, no further had been received. Lester was reported wounded while serving with the Canadian forces in France 21 Sept. 1944. Age 23 at the time, he went overseas in February of 1944 as a reinforcement. Posted to the Highland Light Infantry of Galt, he was with the HLI on D-Day. CDN 12/10/44.
