Private George Albert Howell trained with the 186th Canadian Battalion until March 1917, when he was transferred to 122nd Muskoka Battalion, arriving in England June 11th, 1917. He proceeded to France June 26th, 1917, serving with a Red Cross Hospital for a time, and later transferring to No 44 Canadian Forestry Corps, working in the forests of Northern France. Due to demobilization camp was broken December 2nd, 1918, and Private Howell left for Etaples, then to Sunningdale, England, December 18th, 1918,embarking at Liverpool January 29th, 1919. He arrived at Halifax February 5th, 1919.
