Howard had completed his Naval training in Canada in May of 1944 and was immediately sent overseas. His family had not had word from him between November of 1944 and late February of 1945 the cable they received in November of 1944 indicated that he was somewhere in the middle east. The family was relieve when they received a letter from him indicating he was back in England.

Supplemental Information Ross served two years with the Canadian Navy during WWII. After returning from overseas he purchased the family farm on the Erieau Road from his father. He grew the farm over the forty years he farmed. He was involved in many agricultural associations, a director of the Howard Mutual Insurance and Chatham General Hospital as well organizations. Ross passed away 15 March, 2011 at Chatham Health Alliance – Chatham, ON in his 86th year.
