Born at Newbury, ON. in 1915.  Brother of Charles (see C. F. Jarrell). John was married to Margaret and a they had a baby daughter while he was in service, living on 11 Patterson Ave. in Chatham. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the American Pad and Textile Co. CDN 14/08/44.

John enlisted in February of 1943. He trained at High River, AB., Regina SK.,Vancouver, BC.   St. Thomas, ON.   The CDN 20/10/43 reported that Don arrived home from Regina, SK. to spend a leave with his Betty Lou of Patteson Ave., Chatham with their little daughter. Sadly he returned a week later to Alberta to continue his training.  It was very difficult times for a mom and baby, with a husband overseas, little money and less benefits.   Going overseas in early 1945 first posted to St. Athens, Wales where he received his wings. Transferred to Topcliffe, Yorkshire and then to Linton-on-Ouse, were he was promoted to F/O.

John was reported to have flown 72 missions as a Flight Engineer over Germany in Halifax Mk. VII bombers from the base at Linton-on-Rue. F/O Jarrell was discharged from the RCAF 15/02/1946.

Received the voluntary Enlistment Medal, the France and Germany Star and the 1939 to 1945 Star.

Discharged February 15th, 1946.  Date of Death:  October 27, 1984
