Born 14/09/1925 in Merlin, Raleigh Twsp., Kent Co., ON. Son of Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Jones of Merlin. Max attended Merlin public School and High School. First enlisting in the 2nd Kent Regt. for two years.

The MS (1944 date unknown) had been accepted as a member of the RCAF, but he could not report for duty until the summer months before he finished his school year. Max finished his course at CVS in Chatham and reported for service with the RCAF within the month.  He enlisted in the RCAF at London, ON. 20/03/1944 at the age of 18 years. The MS 16/03/44 reported that AC2 Max E. Jones of No.1 Manning Pool – Toronto had been confined to the Military hospital for a few days. Reports indicated that he was “Coming along nicely”.  The Merlin Standard 27/04/44 reported that Max was leaving for London, ON to begin his service in the RCAF.  He began his training in Toronto, ON., attaining the rank of AC2. Max was discharged from the RCAF in July 1944 after 120 days. He was also rejected from the army under the National Mobilization Act on 22/10/1944 with an honorable discharge.
