Gordon was the first of four siblings, (Shurley, Ross and Kenneth) to enlist for service in WWII. Joining the RCAF 22/10/1940 at Windsor, ON, he did his basic training at Brandon, Manitoba with subsequent postings at Brantford, ON., Sydney, NS., finally Eastern Air Command Headquarters in Halifax, NS.

The Merlin Standard 13/03/41 Reported that Gordon was on a week-end from RCAF Brantford to visit his family.  The MS 24/04/41 reported that Gordon was stationed at RCAF Brantford, ON and was home on a weekend leave. Gordon was still reported stationed at RCAF Brantford when he had a two week leave. MS 8/05/4             

After five years service Gordon was discharged in September of 1947 at Halifax. Though Gordon was the first if four Keane brothers to serve there was an older brother Carl the first born in the Keane who offered his services to his country. He had gone to Windsor to enlist but was disappointed to discover that a heart condition made him ineligible. Though not in uniform he made every effort to support the war effort at home in every way possible to him.

Gordon is listed in the 1942 and 43 Year Books of the Merlin Continuation School where he attended prior to enlisting.
