Walter would transfer to the RCAF.

Walter enlisted in the RCAF 10/01/42. He was reported home on a weekend leave from his training in Toronto. CDN 2/02/42 He was reported at home on a weekend pass 27th of April, 1942. An article in the CDN 25/05/42 reported on the engagement of Walter to Miss Doriene Hornby with a marriage planned for June of 1942.

Married to Maryian Doriene (Hornby) at the Pardoville church 6 June, 1942. The couple were entertained in the church basement by members of the Women’s Association. The couple had a short honeymoon in Windsor, ON. After the honeymoon  they were living in Chatham. Walter had to report  to his unit at Jarvis, ON.

Served in Canada from January 1942 to December 13th, 1942. Went overseas and served with the Bomber Command in England. Promoted to the rank of Corporal.

Walter a AC1 in August of 1942 managed a furlough so he and Maryian he could visit her mother Helena in Chatham before Walter left for Toronto where he would continue his training before departing for England. Walter was able to fit in another leave in October of 1942 to visit both his mother and Doriene’s mother Mrs. Helena Hornby of Pardoville, Kent Co. CDN 21/10/42.

Discharged February 14th, 1946.
