The son of Richard H. and Sarah Lumley of Water St., Sarnia or St.Vincent St. North., ON. A single labourer. Attestation 10/09/1915 at Sarnia, ON. 5’ 6”, Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Dark Blue, Hair: Light Brown.   

To: 70th overseas battalion, at Sarnia, ON., age 21 years. Medical completed 7/09/15. Last address of parents 241 Exmouth St., Sarnia, ON.

Roy departed Halifax, NS. aboard the S.S. Lapland 24/04/16 and arrived at Liverpool, England 4/05/16. 

11/07/16 TOS at West Sandling to 21st Batt.. 24/07/16 transferred to Moore Barracks, Shorncliff – suffering from German Measles. Discharged 8/08/16. Transferred to 21st Batt. 20/10/16.

 

DOW 15/04/1917 at the Battle of Vimy Ridge with 21st Bn. age 23 years. Treated at No.23 C.C.C. nature of wounds not recorded.  Buried at LaPugnoy Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

It was reported that Roy’s mother Sarah received his Memorial Cross 25/08/1920
