Managing Editor of the “Maple Leaf” newspaper of the Canadian Army.

In April of 1942, it was reported that Lieutenant MacFarlane along with his wife where departing Chatham for Gordon Head training camp in Victoria, BC., as an instructor. CDN 16/04/42. 

In September of 1942 Lieut. and Mrs. Macfarlane were staying in Toronto before returning to Victoria, BC where they took up residence. CDN 21/09/42. Reported promoted to the rank of Acting-Major from Captain and then the editor of the “Maple Leaf” (Italy edition). James had been a reporter with the Windsor Star and the Toronto Star. His wife was living with her parents Dr. and Mrs. Bryce Kendrick at their home at 69 Adelaide St., Chatham, ON. His promotion was announced in the CDN 20/01/45.

Douglas sailed to England in 1943 where he served, first as a press officer (or public relations officer). He would later become the managing editor of “The Maple Leaf” the Canadian Army newspaper from January 1944 to October 1945 reporting from Naples, Rome, Brussels and Amsterdam. His wife ‘Kay’ (Kathleen) was living with her parents Dr. and Mrs. Bryce Kendrick at their home at 69 Adelaide St., Chatham, ON 

His promotion was announced in the CDN 20/01/45.
