Found at “Medical History Sheet” – Age 36 years, Occupation: Bank Accountant., Height 5’ 7”, Weight: 160#, Girth, 34/39”, Physical development- Good. Joined the 70th O/S Bn. to 60th CEF. Medical 30/02/1916 at London, ON. “Particulars of Family of an officer.”70th of the 3rd Bn 

Lieutenant Matthew was in charge of the Machine-Gun section of the 70th battalion in London during the winter of 1915-1916 and left for overseas Apr. 21, 1916 on S.S. Lapland.

After arriving in England he was transferred to the 60th battalion as officer in charge of the Machine-gun section with whih he proceeded to France in June.  18/06/16 Landed in France. TOS 60th Bn. Reported for duty24/06/16.  

Lieut. Matthew sailed from Halifax aboard  S. S. Lapland 24/06/16. Landed in France. TOS. 60th Reported for duty 24/06/16.  Commanded a machine gun section. CDP 11/10/16. 

Just six weeks later, near Ypres, Aug. 12, he was killed in action.
