Son of  Mr. and Mrs. W. J. McCutcheon of 105 Richmond St., Chatham, ON., brother of W. Harold (RCAMC) and Lieut. G. A McCutcheon serving in Italy. Married, the father of Patricia (2 yrs.) and David (9 mos.) he had not seen before returning from England. Educated at Tweed High School and Queen’s University. He was employed by the Weston ON. before enlisting.

Harold enlisted with the RCAF in Toronto in September 1940.

The CDN 16/04/43(P), reported he had been awarded the Air Force Medal for his outstanding work as RCAF flying instructor under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He was a Sergeant when he won the award by the King at the investiture in the United Kingdom. 

William was stationed at No.2 Elementary Flying Training School at Fort William, ON.  

The CDN 20/05/44 reported that F/O W. Harold McCutcheon was involved in a maneuver of paratroopers witnessed by the King, Queen and Princess Elizabeth. The Royal Family watches with interest the maneuvers of gliders and paratroopers. After the display the Royals met some of the men involved which included F/O McCutcheon’s crew-members. 

The CDN 29/12/44(P) reported the return of F/O. McCutcheon to Canada. Harold was awarded the Air Force Medal for his outstanding work as an instructor. He went overseas in January of 1943 after training at Brandon and Calgary and two years at Fort William.

He was attached to the RAF in England serving dour operational tours over France including forays on D-Day.
