James enlisted in July 1942 with the 30th Reconnaissance Unit and trained in Canada until July 1943 when he went overseas.  Once overseas he transferred to the Western Ontario Infantry Unit.  He served in England, Holland and Belgium. Wounded in action by a bomb resulting in shrapnel wound to his foot, which resulted in his evacuation to England and eventually to St. Thomas ON. for further treatment.  The CDN 6/11/44 reported that Pte. McEwan was officially reported WIA on 29 October, 1944. The director of records in Ottawa reported that the nature and extent of the injury “were not yet available”.

Tpr. James G. McEwan was discharged in July of 1945.

James passed way 7 April, 1996 at the age of 79 years old.
