Son of Archibald and Mary (Thomson) McLaren of R. R. # 1 Highgate. A single school teacher living at # 12 Cawthra Square, Toronto, ON. Member of 24th Kent Regt. Attestation: 1/05/1916 at Toronto, ON. to Univ. of Toronto Training Co.

Lieutenant Robert A. McLaren enlisted in the University of Toronto Officers`Training Corps May 1st, 1916, and having completed the course and qualified as an Infantry Officer he proceeded to England in August 1916 to accept a commission in the Imperial army. here he transfers to the Royal Air Force, trained in Denham and Oxford, received his commission, and was posted to a squadron at Lincoln in February 1917. While undergoing a final test April 6th, 1917, his machine crashed and took fire, burning him severely. After several months treatment in Lincoln he was sent to a squadron in Grantham, going to France December 17th, 1917. January 6th, 1918, he was shot down and wounded the second time, and after several months in hospital rejoined the squadron at Grantham in May 1918 as Instructor.

After the war Robert married Maruerite Kerr, they had two sons Robert and Stewart. Robert and he would become one of the longest serving superintendents, serving in that position at Rondeau Provincial Park for 28 years. Robert died 26 January, 1972 and is buried at the Durat Cemetery.
