The son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Murphy of Selkirk St., Wallaceburg. Patrick married Miss Dorothy (nee Jones) of Beacher and they have a baby daughter Patricia. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Dominion Glass Co. in Wallaceburg.

The WN 31/07/41 reported that Patrick had been to the RCAF Manning Pool in Toronto prior to his enlistment (perhaps for his medical?). Patrick enlisted in February, 1942 and trained at Toronto and Guelph. He was stationed at Edmonton, AB. as an instructor for eight months and several other RCAF bases finishing up at Patricia Bay BC before going overseas in July 1943. The Wallaceburg News 8/01/42 reported that Patrick was training at No.4 Wireless school in Guelph, ON He was able to be home for the holidays with his parents.

He went overseas in July of 1943, the WN 23/09/43 reported that his wife Dorothy received word of his safe arrival.  

A younger brother Bernard J. was serving in the RCN  for two years and a elder brother Edward Arthur Toles, who was reported MIA in Italy since 14 January, 1944.  He was recently reported as a prisoner of war in Germany and is recovering from wounds   The WN reported that WO. Murphy was serving overseas on ‘active duty’.  

Word from Ottawa concerning the missing flyer was reported in the WN 25/05/44. He was missing after his bomber failed to return after operations over France in April 1944. The CDN 14/06/44 reported that Mrs. Bernard Murphy had received notice that Patrick was alive and is a prisoner in a camp somewhere in Germany.

Advice was forwarded by the RCAF, Casualty Officer, Ottawa stated that: “International Red Cross , quoting German information states that your son, Warrant Officer First Class Patrick Jerome Murphy is prisoner of war stop letter follows.”
