From R. R. #4 Blenheim, ON. Charles enlisted with the RCASC in 1941, going overseas in November of 1943.A photograph of Charles along with three other Blenheim enlistments appeared in the Blenheim paper in May of 1944 reporting all four men were overseas in England. BNT 31/05/44.

While serving in France in July 1944, in an attempt to rescue a companion who had stepped on a German land mine, he also stepped on a mine and spent two months in hospital recovering from his wounds. Charles returned to Canada the 20th of May, 1945, he would be discharged from duty 9/10/45 but remained in Westminster Hospital, London, ON. being treated for his wounds.
