Private William Newham was rejected from the 186th Battalion April 15th, 1916, being medically unfit, and enlisted with the 122nd Forestry Battalion February 19th, 1917, going overseas in April 1917. After three weeks in England he proceeded to France June 7th, 1917, serving as cook with the 49th Company, Canadian Forestry Corps., and three weeks later was admitted to hospital in France with rheumatism. He returned to his unit in September, serving until October 1st, 1918, when he was again admitted to hospital in England suffering with Spanish Influenza. He joined his Corps in France October 23rd, 1918.
