Born 1923 in Chatham, ON. the son of Frank and Kathleen Norton of 257 Park St., Chatham, ON. A student  at St.Joseph’s school and graduated from the Chatham Collegiate Institute. It was reported in the CDN 2/07/42(P) that he received his ‘Wings’ at the graduation exercises at Moncton NB.- S.F.T.S. William was in Chatham on a furlough  He was on a short furlough to visit his parents, he returned to his base in Quebec. CDN 21/10/42(P)

AC2 Norton was reported on a weekend pass to visit his parents in August of 1941. CDN 25/08/41. The CDN 18/11/42 reported that William had arrived safely overseas. He had received his wings at Moncton, NB on 19 June, age 19 years.

It was reported in the CDN 2/07/42(P) that he received his ‘Wings’ at the graduation exercises at Moncton NB.- S.F.T.S. William was in Chatham on a furlough  He was on a short furlough to visit his parents, he returned to his base in Quebec. CDN 21/10/42(P)

William Norton trained in Canada and posted for overseas duty. He was transferred to the R.A.F. in England and took part in over seventy operational flights. AC2 Norton was reported on a weekend pass to visit his parents in August of 1941. CDN 25/08/41. He transferred to Burma and India as a Flying Officer recording over 70 operational flights. He was promoted to Pilot officer.  The CDN 27/02/45(P) reported that William had been promoted to the rank of Pilot Officer in the RAF. He had been overseas for two and a half years. Since joining the RAF he had taken part in over 70 operational flights.

William was transferred to the RAF when he was assigned to overseas operations. Besides operations over Europe he served in the Burma theatre, including  Burma and India as a Flying Officer. He had malaria three times in the Far East but after each attack he returned to duty.

Reported returning from overseas aboard troop ship “Alcantara” CDN 1/08/45(P), expected to arrive at Quebec City the 5th of August, 1945. Arrived in Chatham from overseas duty. He received the India and Burma Campaign ribbon, the 1939-45 star and the General Service ribbon.
