Sergeant George M. Peace embarked for England in August 1915, and was drafted to France in September 1915. He spent six months in the trenches facing Loussines Ridge, then moved to the Ypres Salient. He received slight wounds in the right leg June 3rd, 1916, while trying to cross the bridge over Ypres-Comines Canal, under heavy fire. Twenty seven days later he returned to the unit, but again was wounded by a shell exploding almost at his feet at Hill 60. After six months Hospital treatment in England he returned to Canada February 22nd, 1917, and after convalescence in Toronto received his discharge.

Sergeant George M. Peace was given his discharge December 31st, 1917, from the Spadina Military Convalescence Hospital, Toronto, being unfit for further military service due to severe wounds in the left leg and foot. Pension was granted for six months dating from January 1, 1918, at $ 5.32 per month.
