Unit # Highland Light Infantry

The son of Mr. and Mrs. James Pearson of 308 Creek St., Wallaceburg, ON.

He enlisted at Windsor, ON. in November 1942, trained at Stratford and Camp Ipperwash. The WN 20/08/42 reported that Mrs. Pearson with son Hugh were going to visit Dick in New Westminister, BC. She also planned to visit her sister in Wayburn, SK. on the way west. 

Dick left for overseas in April 1943. He was in the D-Day invasion. He was in a French hospital with pleurisy for two weeks and transferred to a hospital in England for three weeks before taking a hospital ship to Canada.

The Wallaceburg News (date unknown) reported that Pte. Pearson was returning to Canada with other casualties, he was taken to Westminister Hospital, London, ON  where he was recovering from a “bad attack of Pleurisy”. He had been in combat in France when he became ill.

When visited, his mother, father his sister Margaret and brother Bill, Richard was feeling “rather shaky”.
