“I was surprised to see how well dressed the women are here. They seem to have the latest styles in hats and most of them have either fur coats or coats fur-trimmed. About the only thing they seem to be short of here is food. There seems to be lots of clots, beer, liquor, and candies, and I even had a dish of ice cream last night”. CDN 16/11/44.

It was reported in the CDN 5/03/45 that Fred had been hospitalized due to kidney trouble for some time. However even though recuperating himself he helped out in the hospital.  He rejoined the “Argylls” again as a stretched-bearer, “it was while serving in that capacity that he was killed in action.”
