Shaw, Milton Mowbray

 

Born 20 October,1917 in Merlin, Kent Co., ON. The son of the late Milton and Mrs. M. Shaw of Chatham, ON.

Milton attended school in Chatham and graduated from the Chatham Business College. At the time of his enlistments he was the proprietor of a small confectionery business. In 1939 he married Margaret Reuselinck and they had two children Robert who was three and Ruth Ann who was one. They were living at 28 Seventh St., Chatham He was also a member of the Kent Militia.

Previous Military Experience… Served with the Kent Regiment (MG)

History After Enlistment… Served on guard duty at the Chatham armouries for a time and was afterwards sent to Camp Borden as an instructor.  He went overseas in July 1944 from Ipperwash as a reinforcement with a reinforcement draft and served with the Lake Superior Regiment in Holland, Belgium and Germany. It was in while Germany that he won the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery. Transferred back to the R.C.R.’s, and was promoted to the Rank of Lieutenant. Served in Germany on the Occupation for one year.
