The son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sherwood of Wallaceburg. His father was a veteran of the Great War. Reginald was born in Wallaceburg, attended D. A. Gordon, Public School and Wallaceburg High School. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Dominion Glass Co. CDN 16/09/42

In May of 1941 Reg married Miss Audrey Davell of Tolworth, Surrey, England. They had a little girl Sandra Jean. Audrey and Sandra came to Canada in 1943 to reside with Redg’s parents in Wallaceburg and later moved to Guelph, ON.

The WN 5/11/42(P) reported that Reg was a POW at Stalag 8B in Germany. His wife in England received the notification and forwarded the information to his parents in Wallaceburg. A letter that was written sixteen days after the raid on Dieppe and not written in his handwriting stated he was feeling better. The letter went on that the Red Cross were seeing that they were well taken care of. He also how relative could write him and hwo to send parcels 

A second letter from Reg dater the 24th of August reported that he had been wounded in the shoulder, hands and his hip. 

The WN 12/11/42 in an article “Letters To Prisoners of War” gave instructions that each letter or parcel should be addressed:

Prisoner of War Post,

Service des Prisionerd de Guerre.

Krugsgefangenenpost.

 In this case:

A-21726 Pte. Reginald Sherwood, Prisoner of War No. 25728, Stalag 8 B, Germany.

The WN 19/08/43 reported that Reginald’s wife and baby daughter Sandra Jean had arrive in Wallaceburg and were staying with Sgt. Sherwood’s parents. Mrs. Sherwood and Reginald were married 17 May, 1941. After the raid on Dieppe in August 1942, three or four weeks passed before his wife and parents were informed that Reg was a POW. It was reported that Mr. Tom Sherwood is “quite pleased with his title “Grandpa”. 

The WN 3/05/45 reported that Cpl. Sherwood who enlisted very early after war broke out. He was one of first young men to enlist in his case with the Essex Scottish, He would be involved in the tragic raid on the French town of Dieppe in August of 1942 at which he was captured and spent the rest of the war in German POW camps. There had been no determination as to when Cpl. Sherwood would be returned to Canada
