The son of Arthur and Blanche Simard of 421 Tecumseh Road, Tecumseh, ON. He graduated from the Windsor Vocational School. In Feb. 24, 1936 he received a certificate from the Canadian Humane Society for saving Sophie Boshura, a girl from drowning in the Detroit River.

Arthur enlisted in Chatham, in 1941. He had been living with his sister Carmelle and her husband Eddie at the time. Prior to his enlistment he was working at the Chrysler Parts Plant in Chatham.

He received his ‘Wings’ at Centralia, ON. and was serving overseas 1943.  

Arthur was reported missing on air operations 16/03/1944. While serving with No. 426 “Thunderbird Squadron”, P/O. Simard was killed when Lancaster aircraft #DS 771 went missing during a night operation against Stuttgrat, Germany. Also killed F/O. R. B. Black, H. K. Young, P/O J. P. Brooks, W.I. Marti, L. E. Yeo and Sgt. W. A. Hammond (RAF) were also killed.

KIA, 16/13/1944 age 20 years old.

Buried at the War Cemetery, Durnbach, Germany.
