The son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Smith of Highgate, ON. It was reported that Pte. Smith was in hospital in England recovering from his second wound since he went oversea in June of 1944. The first wound was a gun shot wound in the area of Cean, France. After he recovered from that wound he returned to his unit. While his was moving to a new position in Holland, at dusk an 88mm shell exploded killing two of his comrades and wounding Alan and 17 others.

While he was recovering from his most recent injury some sixty-two letters that had been chasing him finally arrived. Pte. Smith was married to Marion (Marksby) of Blenheim. CDN 15/01/45
