James was reported TT 21/09/1939  enlisting with the Essex Scottish in Windsor. The TT 31/09/41 reported that James was stationed in England. In January of 1944 James married Martha (nee Morris) in England and they had two daughters Ann and Sandra.

The TT 16/03/46 reported that James had returned from overseas. His wife and children would arrive in Canada aboard the Queen Marry.
