An article in the Wallaceburg ‘Courier’ 9 Sept. 2010 as follows

Pte. Alfred Steggles, who was killed in the battle of Passchendaele (11 Nov. 17) held special significance for a youthful Angus McVittie. A native of England Alf. Came to Wallaceburg and lived with the McVittie’s who look upon him as a son. His death hit him hard.

Among Alfred’s personal belongings retrieved from his clothing following his death was a cherished photo of little Angus McVittie, the same person who had shared her memories with us this week.
